A bit about the history:
Lukács Cukrászda (patisserie) opened its doors in 1912 under number 70 Andrássy út, Budapest, Hungary. Before this grand-opening it was already established at another location for over 10 years. In these early 20th century pre regime change times it was a very popular and well respected establishment with high society clientele and products suitable for their discerning taste. After the Hungarian regime change it became known as ‘Különlegességi’ Cukrászda which did quite well for itself during the 1970s, later it hit on hard times to be once again renovated in the 1990s, finally being given its rightful name back.
And the present:
The cukrászda was once again renovated in 2007 in a most splendid manner befitting its historic value. It has been given back its former luster and beauty to be once again a pride of Budapest. The glamour is back and the shop has been rejuvenated after waking from a long slumber. The gilding once again sparkles, the brocades and upholstery are the finest examples of their kind, the marble surfaces shine with a quiet elegance. The cukrászda today is easily one of Budapest’s most exquisite blends of the modern and the antique, where old-world elegance meets contemporary comfort and style.
