This was a birthday cake for a young boy, we wanted to do something appropriate for a child’s party, but something that was also elegant and not too overcomplicated, as per request of the client.
Hence we came up with the idea of decorating the cake as if it were a storybook page. The chocolate tree is ‘free handed’ (i.e. no mould used), the marzipan leaves are in fall colours to match the season and the birds add a touch of whimsy and magic along with the wind bars. Everyone was very pleased with this cake. The filling was chocolate, cherries and vanilla, a.k.a. Blackforest cake, which is where our idea to play with forest imagery originated from.
